-
Basically, AC Induction Motors are constant motors.
-
Its speed N is given by the formula: N=120/P
-
The speed can be varied either by changing the frequency or the number of poles.
-
Since, the number of poles are predetermined, the acceptable method for steeples speed variation is by changing the frequency of the input power.
-
Reduction of frequency at the rated voltage saturates the motor.
-
In order to effectively get variable speed with full load torque, the voltage needs to be reduced along with the frequency.
-
Since, the magnetic flux and hence the torque in the AC induction motor is proportional to the voltage-to-frequency ratio, it is necessary to keep v/f ratio as constant throughout the speed variation range.
Technology:
AC Drives are designed to get constant v/f ratio. The CPU selects the desired voltage & frequency for a set speed & keeps this ratio constant by using the latest & world's best technology of Multi Pulse Width Modulation.
